Shower Curtain Liners |
Shower Curtain LinersThere's an old saying that goes: "Behind every great man there's a woman." A similar maxim in the shower curtain world might be: "Behind every great shower curtain there's a shower curtain liner." Yes, while shower curtains grab all the attention, all the glory, and all the credit for keeping the bathroom dry, it's the old reliable liner hanging behind the curtain that actually does most of the water-blocking work. Liners might not be pretty-the most popular kind are clear pieces of plastic-but they are cheap, especially considering how long they can last. It's rare that you'll have to pay much more than ten dollars for a liner, in fact, and you'll probably be able to find one for as little as five or six dollars. Here are a couple of tips when you do your shower curtain liner shopping. First, make sure that the liner you buy is as long as your 84 shower curtain , and as wide, so no part of the curtain will get too wet and thus be ripe for mildew growth. Second, try to get a liner made out of polyethylene vinyl acetate, or PEVA, or one made from ethylene vinyl acetate, or EVA. These two materials are vinyls that do not emit any toxic chemicals. Some liners are made from plastics that let off gasses when they come into contact with hot water, and these gasses can be harmful to people's lungs and other parts of the body when they're inhaled over a long period of time.
